1. Product Overview

1.1 Overview

The experimental setup consists of a wind tunnel and a control unit. The wind tunnel contains a laboratory-scale wind power plant and an axial fan. The rotor and the generator are the core elements of a wind power plant. The control unit includes the control elements of the axial fan, components for the electrical energy storage and electrical consumers.
The axial fan generates the airflow required to set the rotor of the wind power plant in rotational motion. Air flow straighteners ensure a consistent airflow with low turbulence. The generator converts the kinetic energy of the rotor into electrical energy. The electrical energy is fed into an independent system that is not connected to the mains grid. A charge controller in the battery provides intermediate storage of the electrical energy. The electrical energy can be used by electrical loads. Two light bulbs can be used as consumers. Alternatively, external consumers (e.g. heaters) can also be connected. There is no provision for feeding into the public grid. The wind speed is varied by varying the speed of the fan. The following measured values are captured: wind speed before and after the rotor, rotor speed, voltage and current.
